Ok, if this doesn't melt everyone's heart, then there is something wrong with us. :)

Apology
Someone brought it to my attention that it may not be the right thing to do to mention a fallen soldier then pitch my political views.
That’s a valid point and one I hadn’t thought of. If I offended anyone with my God Bless Our Soldiers post, well, that was not my intention and I do apologize.

Noodle and Me

Yesterday my daughter snapped a picture of Noodle and me and I thought I would post it on the blog as I am not sure I have ever put a picture of myself on here.
I think we have one of the best dogs in Georgia and I was kneeling down and reminding her of that fact. She is a darling girl!
God Bless Our Soldiers
Yesterday, a young man who went to school with my daughter and daughter-in-law was buried. He died in Afghanistan serving our country. To read more about Jonathan Ayers and the others who died with him, you can go to The Atlanta-Journal Constitution article. Please think of our troops (and pray for them) as you decide whom you will be voting for in the upcoming presidential election. America can not afford to elect a weak President. Our enemies would surely love that.
I am the first to admit, I am not overjoyed with the candidates. I feel sad that this is the best America can come up with as far as Presidential candidates go.

But on Election Day, I will be voting and I will be voting for John McCain. If you want to read about his stand on certain issues, you can do so at his website.

Out and About
My niece had a baby recently so I was out early this morning mailing a package to Texas for the children. While I was out, I stopped by this little strip center in town where some local folks bring homegrown produce to sell. The corn man had beautiful peaches & cream corn, so I got some of those. I also picked up some other odds and ends and tonight we had veggie night with corn on the cob, pinto beans, zucchini, sliced tomatoes, new potatoes, honey wheat bread and I made peach cobbler for desert.Today and last night were busy for me around here. Noodle and I were alone at the house so I was able to get in some chores I needed to get done. Last night I picked blackberries, which I will also pick later this week as they ripen and today I planted some blueberry plants I have been meaning to plant. That on top of the other chores I did has me contentedly tired tonight. I think I will park myself in my favorite chair, watch the movie Open Range on TV, eat peach cobbler and just be lazy.

Blackberries
I’ve got blackberries that are ready to be picked and so this evening, that is my priority. I wanted to get to them this morning, but wasn’t able to do it, so tonight I will be out on the property, picking away. Noodle will join me, of course, and loves when I hand feed her a blackberry or one drops from my hand.Right now, I am barefooted and in shorts and a t-shirt. But come blackberry picking time, I will be wearing the same shirt, but with blue jeans, my work boots, leather gloves, a hat, and cocooned in bug repellant. Blackberries have notoriously dangerous stickers and each year I often return looking like I waged war against a small tiger. I’m stubborn, so I like to get as many of the berries I can and this means traipsing into bushes and tangled branches that I have no doubt, many would just skip. I often tease my husband that I feel I have done a good job if I didn’t lose a pint of blood when I picked them.
Good pies, cobblers and jam coming our way and worth a little blood, in my opinion.
